Jean Ashcraft believes North Mississippi has many fascinating stories. Investigating these stories led her to be part of the creation of a local newspaper, the News Exchange, in 2006. The paper was the first interactive community newsweb operation in Mississippi and among the first in the United States and continued its online and print presence for several years before being acquired by a regional publishing company. She has been very active in her community, helping to found the Historic Northside Neighborhood Association as well as being the president and/or board member of numerous organizations including Tallahatchie Arts Council, New Albany Elementary School PTO, Union County Extension Service, Northeast Mississippi Tourism Council, and Union County Friends of the Library. Also, received the prestigious Golden Book Award in 2005 from Union County Friends of the Library. When presented with the opportunity to purchase a small cable TV station in New Albany, Jean jumped at the chance and has worked to revamp the station’s equipment and mission so it can continue to showcase the best of regional talent into the 21st century.
